Lower Peover WI May 2017

Lower Peover WI continues to meet on the first Wednesday of each month in the School Hall of Lower Peover School at 7.30 pm.

This month’s meeting on Wednesday 3rd May followed a slightly different format, as discussed by members the previous month. All members were welcomed and name tags were offered to everyone to ensure new members and old friends were all aware of each other’s names. We sat in a circle to discuss the resolutions, following an introduction by members who had attended a briefing meeting. There followed a full exchange of views on loneliness which can strike anyone at any age and micro fibres being disgorged into the waterways and the destruction caused to sea creatures and the food chain. The group voted in favour of the resolutions which will be taken by Valerie Bowyer, our representative, to the National Federation.

Sue Ward then gave an interesting and insightful talk about her move to France over ten years ago, building a property and establishing herself and family within a French community and wider groups. Sue and her husband had the most positive of experiences and obviously embraced the challenges and made a great life for themselves. Now they are replicating this enthusiasm in their move to Knutsford. How fascinating to know more about the lives of our members.

Lower Peover had organised the WI County Walk in April, a lovely day walking around our beautiful countryside with friends. Thank you to all who came and made it a successful event.

Our Book Club continues from strength to strength, meeting on the second Monday in each month at 2.00 pm in a variety of venues. On the 8th May we discussed ‘On Cold Mountain’ by Charles Frazier, a book of the toils and travels around the South of the USA during the American Civil War. We are indebted to Wendy Antrobus who provides us with searching questions to discuss.

A small group are preparing our joint venture for the Cheshire Show and other members are putting the finishing touches to their individual entries.

Everyone is welcome to visit us and to join in our activities.
